William Shakespeare

The Tempest

The Tempest is a comedy written by William Shakespeare. It is generally dated to 1610–11 and accepted as the last play written solely by him, although some scholars have argued for an earlier dating. While listed as a comedy in its initial publication in the First Folio of 1623, many modern editors have relabelled the play a romance.

Quotes

he very instant that I saw you, did
My heart fly to your service; there resides,
To make me slave to it; and for your sake
    Am I this patient log—man.

If thou dost break her virgin-knot before
    All sanctimonious ceremonies may
With full and holy rite be minister'd,
No sweet aspersion shall the heavens let fall
To make this contract grow: but barren hate,
Sour-eyed disdain and discord shall bestrew
The union of your bed with weeds so loathly
That you shall hate it both: therefore take heed,
As Hymen's lamps shall light you.

There's nothing ill can dwell in such a temple:
If the ill spirit have so fair a house,
Good things will strive to dwell with't
