Jen McConnel

Jen McConnel is an American fiction writer, teacher, and curriculum theorist. She is an educational leader with over 15 years of experience working with diverse institutions from middle school through college. McConnel also authored the guide Styling Your Writing: Mixing and Matching Academic Writing Techniques to Create Something Uniquely You (2022).

Jen McConnel was born in Michigan. McConnel graduated from Western Michigan University and earned her MS in Library Science at the Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She also has a Ph.D. from Queen’s University in Education.

Jen first began writing poetry as a child. Since then, her words have appeared in many magazines and journals, including Sagewoman, PanGaia, and The Storyteller (where she won the People’s Choice 3rd place award for her poem, Luna). She is also a former reviewer for Voices of Youth Advocates (VOYA) and a member of SCBWI, NCWN, and SCWW.

Before getting serious about storytelling, McConnel was a middle school teacher, a librarian, and a bookseller. Now she is a University Liaison at North Carolina Central University.

McConnel writes new adult, young adult, and nonfiction books. She is most known for her romance series: The Adventures Abroad, Once Upon a Desire, Counting Curses series, and others.

Jen McConnel lives and writes in Durham.
