Andrew Davie is an American author whose work spans speculative fiction, crime, and memoir. He is best known for his hardboiled novellas Pavement (2019), Ouroboros (2020), and his memoir Land of Allusions (forthcoming). His fiction often explores existential themes and recovery, drawing on his own life after surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2018.
Davie was born in New York City, where he later embarked on a diverse professional career. Before becoming a writer, he worked as a recruiter for software programmers, an office manager at a theatre company, and an institutional sales and options trader in the finance industry.
He then moved into education, teaching English and writing in New York, Virginia, Macau, and Hong Kong. His teaching experience included middle school, high school, and college-level courses for both traditional and ESL students, as well as students with learning disabilities.
In 2018, shortly before starting a PhD in creative writing, Davie suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and subarachnoid haemorrhage while preparing to fly to visit family. He later recalled the event in his memoir, writing, “All I can do now is move forward and make the best of the opportunities I have.” His survival and long recovery would deeply influence his later writing, shaping his exploration of trauma, identity, and resilience.
Following his recovery, Davie published a series of crime novellas, including No One Runs Faster Than a Bullet (2020) and Dig Two Graves (2021), both from Close to the Bone, and The Posting Method (2021) from Next Chapter.
His works Leviathan Rising (2021) and The Leprechaun Violence Conjecture (2021) were published by Alien Buddha Press. His speculative and crime fiction often examines moral ambiguity and personal loss within tightly constructed narratives.
Davie’s later works include Range (2022), recognised by the Independent Fiction Alliance as one of the best truly independent books of the year. His memoir The Second Act (2023) continues the story of his recovery, education in clinical mental health counselling, and return to writing. In his words, “Comedy is just tragedy plus time.”
His 2025 releases include Ambiguous Win, Sometimes a Superpower, and Useless Knowledge.
