Your workplace is experiencing emotional injuries every single day. Do your leaders have the first aid kit?

When an employee has a physical accident, we know exactly what to do. We have protocols, first aid kits, and a clear chain of command. But what happens when the injuries are psychological? When an employee is struggling with the after-effects of trauma, burnout, or overwhelming stress, most leaders are left feeling helpless, relying on outdated advice that often does more harm than good.

Workplace First Aid is the essential, practical guide for leaders, managers, and HR professionals who are ready to stop guessing and start building a genuinely supportive and psychologically safe culture. This book is your first aid kit, packed with the tools, strategies, and conversation scripts you need to respond to the human challenges of the modern workplace with confidence and compassion.

Author Alyssa Perez demystifies the concept of a trauma-informed workplace, framing it not as a complex clinical issue, but as a fundamental set of leadership competencies. By learning to administer “psychological first aid,” you can prevent minor issues from becoming major crises, build unbreakable trust with your team, and create an environment where every employee can perform at their best.

This highly practical guide will equip you to:

Create profound psychological safety, the cornerstone of innovation, engagement, and high-performing teams.

Master the five core principles of a trauma-informed workplace: Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment.

Respond effectively and compassionately in moments of crisis, from a colleague's death to a round of layoffs, with a clear incident response plan.

Conduct supportive check-ins and performance conversations that build people up, rather than tear them down.

Audit your existing policies and redesign them to be flexible, trusting, and human-centered, sending a powerful message of support to your entire organization.
