Social anxiety is the fear of being judged in a negative way by others, while shyness is a feeling of being awkward or tense around others.

Therefore, it makes sense that social anxiety has prehistoric roots, because of those roots and the amount of time it takes to evolve traits in humans, social anxiety, and shyness are an inherent part of our genetics.
