Helena Hunting is a Canadian author who writes romance novels. She writes everything from contemporary romance to romantic comedies. Her Pucked series made her a bestselling author. She is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.
Helena Hunting began her career with Pucked. She said, "Pucked was the book that gave me a career, my launch book". The series became fourteen books total. She said: "I had no idea what I was doing at all. I learned a lot from that series".
The Pucked series follows hockey players and their romantic relationships. Hunting loves writing hockey romance. She said: "It's so Canadian. You almost can't be Canadian and not like hockey". She added, "Hockey is such an intelligent sport, and I really love the team".
After Pucked, Hunting wrote the All-In series. The books include A Lie for a Lie, A Favor for a Favor and A Secret for a Secret. The series was adjacent to the Pucked world but stood on its own.
She published the Clipped Wings series about tattoo artists and relationships. The Shacking Up series followed with seven books. The series features romantic comedies set in New York.
Hunting wrote Little Lies (2019), the first book in the Lies, Hearts and Truths series. The book explores anxiety and mental health. She said, "I really connect with Lavender with the anxiety piece". She wrote it in 2019, then the pandemic hit. She said people felt seen by the book.
The Lakeside series includes Love Next Door (2021) and Love on the Lake (2021). The Spark House Sisters series followed with When Sparks Fly, Starry-Eyed Love and Make A Wish.
In April 2023, Hunting began plotting the Toronto Terror series. She said: "I really wanted to write a brand new hockey series". She wanted to set something in Ontario, an area she knew well. The series began with If You Hate Me (2023).
If You Want Me appeared in 2024, followed by If You Need Me later that year. The series continued with If You Love Me, If You Claim Me and If You Keep Me. Helena Hunting also published standalone novels, including Kiss My Cupcake, Meet Cute and A Love Catastrophe.
Hunting writes between 300,000 and 400,000 words per year. Most of her books are around 100,000 words long. She takes four to eight weeks to draft a book. Then she spends two to three months on edits.
Hunting loves the enemies-to-lovers trope. She said: "I think I really love enemies-to-lovers. It's so fun, because there's so much built-in tension already". She enjoys writing the banter and watching when characters crack.
Helena Hunting lives outside Toronto with her family and her cat. Her cat thinks the best place to sleep is her keyboard. She describes herself as a workaholic who loves writing books.
