<!doctype html public «-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en»> http-equiv=content-type> Biochemistry Laboratory Manual for undergraduates is the first textbook on the market that uses a highly relevant model, antibiotic resistance, to teach seminal topics of biochemistry and molecular biology. Inclusion of a research project does not entail a limitation: this manual includes all classic biochemistry techniques such as HPLC or enzyme kinetics and is complete with numerous problem sets relating to each topic.

The ykkCD RNA sensor is a riboswitch. Riboswitches are conserved elements in the mRNA that regulate gene expression by allosteric structural changes. They are located in the 5’ untranslated region (5’UTR) of the gene they regulate. Most riboswitches characterized to date turn off expression of a metabolite-producing gene once sufficient amounts of metabolite is synthesized.
