This novel is set in Cannes, France, and Locke makes full use of the wonderful climate and scenery throughout the book. Amos is the central character's nephew, the son of his wayward and now-deceased sister who had spent her life in Australia. Amos brings trouble and disruption to David Fontenay and turns his quiet painter's world upside-down.
