Who but the Lord Himself would think of giving John Mark the young servant who went home in disgrace—the high privilege of painting this portrait of God's Perfect Servant? Perhaps it was this that stirred Mark to become a “profitable” servant, as Paul would later commend him. We also need encouragement in our service for the Lord and, by helping us understand this Gospel, the author has done us a great service. After giving a helpful and detailed outline, brief and thought-provoking comments are given on each of the 100 paragraphs of the Gospel narrative. Difficult points are discussed and the reader is encouraged to form his own conclusions. The swiftly changing scenes and ceaseless service of our Lord remind us of His wonderful ministry during His earthly life and the work He continues to do on our behalf in heaven.
