    Louisa grabbed Jack’s arm as he started to step back. His eyes were wide and shining with panic. She gripped his hair and gave him a quick peck.

    “Are you ready to meet Daisy?”

    “I’ve been ready for thirty-nine weeks,” Jack grinned at her.

    The thought crashed through his skull like a ton of bricks. He caught a glimpse of his wide eyes reflecting in the windshield.

    Jack had known that he felt something for Louisa, something powerful. But he hadn’t been ready to call it Love, with a capital L. L-O-V-E.

    Jack lurched to a stop. A warm glow grew in his chest. There was something important she needed to see. No, that he wanted her to see.

    Louisa twined her arms around his neck. “Probably not, but I guess I can settle for your six-pack abs and gorgeous smile. I’m selfless like that.”

    “Yes, you’re such a giver,” he chuckled. “Ready to go home?

    “But you’re a monster?” Louisa poked at him. She liked him all surly and protective. It was both endearing and entertaining.
