Alfred Douglas

The City of the Soul

There is no crudeness in the slenaer volume of sonnets which Lord Alfred Douglas has published. He does not make the mistake of overloading his sonnets with thought, and giving them a burden — which bows them. There is nothing tortuous or crabbed or obscure in them, nor do they sin in the other extreme and fall into mellifluous banality. Almost all equally deserve quotation.
