I saw the lorry coming towards me, I had no way to escape, bracing for the moment of impact. I watched the blood leaving my body from where my bones pierced my quivering flesh until I lost consciousness.

I stayed a year in hospital undergoing numerous attempts to cure my paralysis. Now evident since I had regained consciousness, my life is over, never again would I walk through the green fields by the river.

I'm transported home into the spare bedroom, my prison until I die. My company would be a television, unable to change the channels, and a picture hanging on the wall of a man stepping from this world into the next, in bright light.

My only movement is my eyes and mouth; the rest of me is numb.

I watched my wife spoon-feeding me like a baby trying to be patient, gritting her teeth.

What happens next is beyond my comprehension!
