The Prenup He Shattered for His Personal Trainer

I found the prenup in a forgotten file on his laptop, a search for flight confirmations I was never supposed to see. He’d drawn up a list of rules for our marriage, our life. And rule number one, underlined twice, was “No fitness professionals.”

My husband, Julian, promised his family that was the one line I wouldn’t cross. That marrying a girl from the wrong side of the tracks was manageable, so long as it wasn’t compounded by the shame of a wife who worked with her hands. His mother had the clause drafted herself. Julian called it silly, a piece of paper to appease them. He signed it with a wink. I signed it for love.

Then he hired Annelise.

She was everything his mother had ever wanted for him. Polished, pedigreed, and paid to be perpetually in his space. She became his morning ritual, his midday text check-in, the reason he was too exhausted for dinner with my friends. His phone buzzed with her name during our anniversary toast. He defended their “connection” when I said it made me uncomfortable, said I was being insecure, that I didn’t understand the pressure he was under.

The prenup wasn't about protecting our future. It was about protecting his from me. And he violated it for a woman he saw more than his own wife.

When his mother started inviting Annelise to family brunches, sitting them side-by-side, I was the ghost at the table. The problem. The unreasonable wife who couldn’t see how good he had it with someone so “supportive.” He never kissed her. He never touched her. He just slowly handed her every piece of our life, one dismissed concern at a time. He gave her the intimacy I was begging for, while I held the contract that proved he’d known better all along.

Did he even see me anymore? Or had I already been erased?
