Computer Audition

What Is Computer Audition

The branch of study known as computer audition (CA), often known as machine listening, focuses on the development of algorithms and systems for the interpretation of audio by machines. Computer audition is an attempt to bring together different fields that, in the past, worked with particular issues or had a specific application in mind. This is done since the concept of what it means for a machine to “hear” is extremely wide and somewhat hazy. In an interview with Technology Review, the engineer Paris Smaragdis discusses these systems, which he describes as “software that uses sound to locate people moving through rooms, monitor machinery for impending breakdowns, or activate traffic cameras to record accidents.”
