Sixteen-year-old Ben Waldorf's hands create stuff that shouldn't exist—props and models so mind-blowingly real they leave jaws on the floor. Too bad the only witnesses are his model-obsessed misfit squad (aka the Glue Crew), loyal dog Winston, and the dusty shelves of his bedroom.
Ben's life is already in free fall. His single dad just got checked into rehab, leaving nothing behind but empty bottles and questions. The new school principal—a wannabe drill sergeant with a kid allergy—is laser-focused on bulldozing Ben's creative sanctuary, and his social anxiety is permanently stuck at maximum volume.
Then Booksie Shooster crashes into his life. She's cute, she's loud, and she's just spotted the golden ticket: Helton Cane, the reclusive filmmaker behind the most anticipated sci-fi blockbuster of the decade, “SPACE WARP!” has just put out an ad seeking model makers.
With a master plan worthy of a secret agent, Booksie tricks Ben and his underachieving friends into thinking they're creating models for the hum-drum county fair—while secretly preparing submissions for Helton's movie.
Now, Ben, Booksie, and their crew of outcast prop-makers are making a stand—against a small town that doesn't understand, against a school system trying to crush their creativity, and a world that underestimates what teenagers can really do. Sometimes, the universe's biggest dreamers need to build their own rockets to the stars!
