Renowned author Julia Blackburn’s critically acclaimed book ‘Time Song: Searching for Doggerland’ has been recorded as an audiobook by actress Lisa Coleman. The 18 time song poems are sung to a backdrop of drone and nature sounds, a cross between spoken word and folk singing. Lisa experiments with the melody of speech to serve the meaning of the poems. With only the sounds of nature around them, how would our early ancestors’ songs have sounded?
Doggerland is the area of land under the north sea that used to connect Britain to mainland Europe.
Time song is a beautiful meditation on early human history, time and grief.
It is a qualitative, deeply personal approach to ecology and palaeontology and explores the place of humans in our world.
