"COVID THE MUSICAL" weaves together the stories of six individuals navigating the unprecedented landscape of the pandemic, framed by a philosophical battle between two narrators—THE AUDITOR and THE CLEANER.
THE AUDITOR, detached and analytical, presents the pandemic in cold statistics and financial terms, believing that "everything is fiction" and life has no inherent meaning. THE CLEANER counters with compassion, insisting that human stories matter behind every number.
Through their opposing lenses, we witness the pandemic's impact: ROGER and BECKY, a middle-aged couple who rediscover their love during lockdown only to face tragedy when BECKY contracts COVID while caring for her dementia-afflicted mother; JAMIE, a young man forced to watch his grandfather's funeral on a screen who spirals into conspiracy theories while breaking lockdown rules; and MS. JENKINS, an elderly woman paralysed by fear who watches JAMIE from her window with both concern and envy.
As their stories intersect—JAMIE witnessing ROGER’s devastating grief, MS. JENKINS revealing her connection to JAMIE’S grandfather—the musical explores themes of isolation, connection, loss, and meaning-making during crisis.
Through songs ranging from the cynical "Everything is Fiction" to the hopeful "All Will Be Well," the show examines how we construct meaning when confronted with senseless suffering and asks what truly matters when our fragile systems collapse.
