Oedipus Rex, also known as "Oedipus the King" or "Oedipus the Tyrant, is a play written by Sophocles and was performed sometime between 430 and 426 BCE. It is about the story of Oedipus, who, in attempting to flee from his fate, rushes headlong to meet it. Oedipus becomes the King of Thebes after killing Laius, not knowing that he fulfilled a prophecy of killing his own father and marrying his own mother. This play is an example of a classic tragedy and has intense dramatic appeal.
The Importance of Being Earnest is hailed as Oscar Wilde’s most famous and enduring play. It was the first modern comedy in England and was a satire of the social hypocrisy of Victorian ways. The story revolves around Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff who bend the truth in order to add excitement to their lives and escape burdensome social obligations. Jack invented a brother named Ernest whose supposed exploits gives him an excuse to travel and galavant around London to save him. Algernon imitated Jack and came up with his own imaginary friend named Bumbury so he could also have his own adventures in the countryside. Their deceptions eventually crossed paths and almost foiled their romantic pursuits.
