“Once the Christ presence is revealed in everything that lives, you can never be lonely again.” — Richard Rohr, The Universal Christ
Every day I go for a walk. I walk to listen, observe, pray. Sometimes for a prompt, other times to watch the blue wren who stops by the wetlands near our house. Often my two-year-old daughter accompanies me and together we trek through the suburb, winding down neighbouring streets and over the bridge to meet the swans by the lake. It’s completely quiet, aside from the ambience of life surrounding us. I think this is the closest I’ve come to understanding this universal Christ Rohr speaks of. In this contemplative moment of wonder, I can take a deep breath and discover the divine in the very oxygen filling my lungs. Even as the wind brushes against my skin, I am filled with awe, as I become aware of my union with the Logos that became flesh, as with everything around me, in this sacred moment of connection. This is where I discover that Christ is in both the beauty and the suffering, in the resurrection and the death, as I search to find Love in the dark.
